You will do this a handful of times. An agent does it every day.
The Ethical Agent Network (EAN) only lists independent agents who've passed a written standard and signed a binding promise to put you first. Membership is earned, not bought.
From the outside a good agent and a confident one look exactly the same, and working out which is which shouldn't be a job you have to do on your own.

What does an agent have to prove?
No qualification is needed to sell somebody else's home. An agency has to join a redress scheme, but nobody has to prove they are any good at the job. The person choosing between agencies is making one of the biggest financial decisions of their life.
Every approved agent has signed up to eight promises, in writing. Honest valuations, clear fees, no pressure to instruct, and a straight answer on every offer among them.
The Ethical Agent Network gives you a way to recognise the agents who do the right thing, and gives those agents a way to prove it.

The valuation is free, it commits you to nothing, and your enquiry only ever goes to one agent. Tell the Ethical Agent Network where you are and when suits, and it passes you to the approved agency covering your area. If there isn't a member near you we'll say so, rather than send you somewhere else.
There is no obligation to instruct anybody afterwards, and the Ethical Agent Network takes no referral fee or commission from the agent for passing your details on.
